Remembrance of Things Past

Sydney Harbor Bridge from Pier 4

Today was my mother’s birthday. We had dinner at the Wharf Restaurant, which looks back across Sydney Harbor from Pier 4. If you don’t look too closely at either the broken glass in the windows of Pier 3 or the buildings in the distance under the bridge, it’s possible to imagine you are in Sydney 30, 40, or 50 years ago. Before the beauty of the city and its harbor was destroyed by greed and corruption.

Knowing Sydney, it would have been hard to capture a shot like that with today's tinsel getting in the way.

Jon, mate, count your fucking blessings you live in Sydney. Three+ years I spent there, (working all the goddamn time, yeah, but living in Surry Hills, a short walk from a Living Downtown, from the cliches of the harbour (but beautiful cliches, nonetheless)) - it is paradise compared to the evil blighted hellish wasteland that is Seoul. The central problem of my life right now is that I have a dream job in hell, but have the opportunity to return to Sydney, which means life in (urban) paradise, but Wealth Bondage. Thou dost protesteth overmuchithishly!

I'm old enough to remember Sydney before it's heart was ripped out...

I still love the place, heart or no heart! I'd give my left (select appendage here) to have my current job and be living there...
