Importing Radio content into Movable Type
A couple of people have asked how I imported the content from my Radio site into Movable Type. The simple answer is that I had help, lots of it, from my friend Herman Coomans. Radio has a backup feature that creates an XML file for each post. Herman wrote some Perl scripts that massage those backup files into a form that MT understands.
I’m currently working with one Radio user who wants to migrate to MT. My intention is that we document the process as thoroughly as possible and then send the documentation and accompanying Perl scripts to Ben and Mena Trott for possible inclusion in the Import section of the MT documentation. That way, our work will be available for anyone who wants to use it.

Only if you can provide me with the scripts in Python ;-)
And anyway, I thought this fair country was still a republic? As Al Murray was saying in the basement only last week "She is your Queen you know".
Seriously though, any information will be very useful and much appreciated, keep up the good work.
Thanks Bill. I've downloaded the files and I'll check them out.
I'm *very* interested in importing my old Radio 8.0.7 entries into Movable Type. Please keep me posted! :)
I too, have moved completely over to Movable Type now, having found that the only thing I miss from Radio is the easy-to-read referer logs, being curious about how people get to my blog, and what they hit the most.
Any progress on getting the good folks at MT to incorporate your scripts/info into the docs for Radio importing?

Another mover from Radio to MT here. I'm not sure if you're aware of it, but Ben Trott of MT is pointing people to you as the go-to guy for moving Radio entries to MT (see the MT support forums). I tried Bill Kearney's Radio export tools, but they did not work. Can you pass out those Perl scripts Herman Coomans created, or....?
Thanks much!
Bill Kearney's export.root does work but you have to fiddle with the radio buttons to get it to export the way you want. And it writes the date format as MM/DD/YY, so the year comes out as "02" and MT interprets that as 1902. It also puts the BODY: line and the first line of the body on the same line which MT doesn't seem to like (in version 2.2.1, at least). But it's easy enough to edit that in the text file before you import.
I am very interested in getting my Radio posts to MT. Just installed today if you could point the way to the scripts (and possibly provide some direction) I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks,
JG
