Code formatting with Dreamweaver MX

(For HTML purists only)

In earlier versions of Dreamweaver, if you wanted to change the way your HTML was formatted you had to edit a configuration text file, entering numbers to control tag indenting and whether specific tags had line breaks before them or not.

With Dreamweaver MX you choose Edit > Tag Libraries to open the Tag Library Editor (screen shot), which allows you to set the line breaks before and after individual tags and to control the formatting, indenting, and case—not just for HTML but for CFML, ASP, JSP, PHP, etc. It’s an anal-retentive’s dream come true. But beware—I’ve wasted an inordinate amount of time fussing with these settings to get my HTML “just right.”

Ah yes, but is it as good as vim? Sorry, but someone had to raise this one. At least its not Godwin's Law.

Of course, the real question is what are you doing posting to your weblog at 9:38pm on a Friday night and what am I doing replying to it at 10:16pm. I'm off to the pub.

You're absolutely right to ask that question, Andy. I should be watching the video I rented but I decided to come into the office and make a "quick" post or two.

As for vim -- sorry, I'm a loyal TextPad user.

Sorry gents, I'm just looking for some tag libs to extend Dreamweaver MX. Know where I can find one for XSL?
