CSS on the run
At Caveat Lector, the markover of AKMA’s site proceeds at a rapid clip. Whether you want to learn about the theoretical underpinnings of XHTML and CSS or simply how to create an attractive, accessible site that validates, Dorothea Salo’s ongoing tutorial is a model of graceful exposition.
As to the question of rendering AKMA’s “Greek, quasi-transliterated (de-Symbol-fonted, yes?)” header as text rather than an image, I’ll defer to Mark Pilgrim’s superior knowledge of CSS. But I’m relaxed about having that text as an image, particularly since the fancy cross has to be an image anyway.
I did notice a difference in how the draft page header displays (I made screen dumps). The header looks fine in Windows IE6 whereas it overlaps the left border in Opera 6.
It’s early in the morning and I’m racing to catch a train but I’m wondering if this is because Tantek Celik’s Box Model Hack needs to be applied to the #header DIV rather than the #title. That seems consistent with the 10 pixel overlap we see in Opera.
