Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?

They can pinch the look, but they can't swipe the feel.
It's the quality of the content that's important, and in your case Jonathon that would be difficult to pirate.
Posted by: Allan Moult on 10 June 2002 at 10:00 AMOh, please, nice try but there really is no comparison. You have a smoother overall delivery, more insightful postings, and you have that Absolute Blog chick on your Favorites.
See, no comparison. Heh.
"Smoother overall delivery..."
Does that mean I don't need to read the Guide to Flirting?
Posted by: Jonathon Delacour on 10 June 2002 at 11:44 PMNo one's ever accused me of 'smoother overall delivery', but I have been told that I both taste great and am less filling. Which made me feel pretty damn efficient.
Of course, that joke's probably lost on an international audience...
It also sounds a lot cruder than I meant it to be.
I'll just shut up now and slink back to my own blog.
Posted by: steve on 11 June 2002 at 11:21 AMThe joke wasn't lost on this international audience, Steve. And it certainly sounded risqué to me.
Posted by: Jonathon Delacour on 11 June 2002 at 12:24 PMDid you have the 'tastes great, less filling' beer ad campaign in Australia? I can't even remember what beer it was; Miller, maybe?
I've wondered if, for all the talk of 'globalized' pop culture, it might be advertising that remains the somewhat localized: we watch the same shows and films and read the same books all over the world now, but in each market (so far) it's sponsored by different companies. So while we can both drop references to the Simpsons or to Neighbors (at least in Europe) and know what the other is talking about, I couldn't tell you what the advertising slogan is for Big M milk drinks. Unless Coke and McDonalds start running the same ads everywhere... then we're screwed.
Miller Lite, I believe it was, Steve. I didn't think it was crude or risque at all, it made me laugh. Or maybe it was crude and risque and that proves I am, too.
Hmm...not the first time I've heard that.
That whole Guide to Flirting thing seemed so ... depressing. That could just be me, too, being terminally single.

One of the things I love about MT's use of templates and stylesheets is how amazingly easy it is to overhaul your entire site simply by cutting and pasting some CSS references. Obviously, I did this w/ your site. And whammo! my site looks exactly like yours. Rest assured, I am in the process of tweaking and modifying certain elements so it's not a carbon copy and feels less like identity theft ;)
Hell, I even thanked you and BlueRobot.com for the layout in my source code...does that count for anything?
Posted by: Ed on 12 June 2002 at 02:19 AMEd, sorry if I gave the wrong impression. For a moment there, when I saw your site, I thought I was looking in the mirror. I like the changes you've made (though I'd probably make the titles in the links area a similar color to your banner background). And thanks for the credit. I appreciate it.

You know, I've been looking at that design for a day or two and trying to figure out why it looked familiar. I can't believe it never clicked.
