A child is born

Erin Eileen Coomans, born on August 21, 2002Fiona Coomans, wife of my friend Herman, gave birth to a baby girl this morning. Erin Eileen Coomans weighed 4470g (9lb,13oz) and measured 51cm (20”) in length. Herman tells me that she has a healthy set of lungs. Mother and child are, happily, both doing well.

Three months ago, Herman, Fiona, and I took their two boys (John and James) to the Aquarium then went on to dinner at my favorite restaurant, New Wok in Town. I wrote:

Fiona is expecting a baby in August and Amy [one of the owners] told her it will be a girl—because of the shape of her tummy and the fact that the baby is sitting low. Come August we’ll be able to gauge the accuracy of traditional Chinese obstetrics.

Looks like traditional Chinese obstetrics is pretty accurate.
